Job Description

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental

Engineering (CAEE) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the field

of computational modeling of materials. The Department is interested in adding expertise that

contributes to the fundamental understanding of material behavior through computational

modeling, with an emphasis on civil engineering applications.

Examples of desirable expertise include: (i) computational modeling of complex multi-physics and

chemical material processes relevant to the deterioration, damage, and/or failure processes

afflicting the infrastructure; (ii) multiscale modeling of material behavior that bridges spatial

scales; (iii) the design and development of new materials to meet prescribed performance, arrest

or delay deterioration, and prevent failure or promote healing. Candidates with demonstrated

experience in applications relevant to civil engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in

mechanics, materials, numerical methods, and structural engineering, develop a sustainable

sponsored research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be

involved in service to the university and the profession. Though preference will be given to

applicants at the assistant professor rank, truly exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be

Applicant Instructions: Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science
