Job Description

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Civil, Architectural and

Environmental Engineering (CAEE) invites applications for two tenured/tenure-track positions

in Building Energy and Environments. Candidates at all ranks, Assistant/Associate/Full

Professor, will be considered. The Department seeks outstanding applicants in all areas of

engineering relevant to the topic of Building Energy and Environments with representative

examples including: 1) indoor air quality and chemistry, 2) impact of built environment on

occupant performance and/or health, 3) building energy and environmental control systems.

Successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the CAEE

department, develop a sustainable sponsored research program, supervise graduate students,

collaborate with other faculty within and outside of the CAEE department, and be involved in

service to the university and the profession.

The CAEE department has over 55 faculty and is currently ranked number two in Civil

Engineering and number six in Environmental Engineering in the 2018 US News and World

Report. Faculty in CAEE have access to state-of-the-art research and computational facilities

including, for example, a full scale Test House (home of the largest indoor chemistry

experiment), a Façade Thermal Lab, multiple Environmental Chambers, and the Texas Advanced

Computing Center. The candidates for the BEE positions will have the opportunity to collaborate

across disciplines through campus-wide initiatives (e.g. UT’s Bridging Barriers Initiatives), as

well as through ongoing collaborations with other schools such as the School of Architecture,

and the Dell Medical School.

Applicant Instructions: Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science

or other relevant discipline and have the ability to build an independent, externally-funded

research program at the forefront of their field. Interested and qualified individuals should

technical expertise that complement the department’s strategic plan and vision (available at; (4) statement of teaching philosophy; and (5) the

references for tenured positions. The letter of interest should be addressed to: Chair, Department
