GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking a Geotechnical Assistant Project Manager to join our team in one of our Connecticut offices (Glastonbury or Trumbull) for the technical execution of transportation, building, energy and other infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of soil behavior and foundation design. A strong academic record, civil engineering skills, analytical and communications skills, and a willingness to travel locally and regionally are also essential for this position.
GZA caters to clients in the architecture and engineering, contracting, governmental, industrial, infrastructure, institutional, legal, oil and gas, power, and real estate industries. We provide a range of inter-related services focused on engineering and the earth sciences, water resources/management, waste management/handling, environmental health and safety services, and regulatory compliance.
Perform outdoor, all-season field tasks such as test boring inspection and construction monitoring, and assist in the staff training, mentoring and management of these projects.
Perform technical aspects of projects such as preliminary and final design and report writing under the supervision of lead designers, project managers or principals.
Work with project teams on geotechnical engineering projects that involve field work, data evaluation and engineering analysis for dam, transportation, building, waterfront, energy, and other infrastructure projects.
Typical Duties May Include
Conducting in-situ and foundation tests and subsurface investigation of soil and groundwater in connection with building and infrastructure projects.
Monitoring and documenting geotechnical aspects of construction projects.
Conducting technical analyses/calculations.
Performing engineering computation and analysis of subsurface data.
Writing drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications and related bid documents.
Develop construction plans.
Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates.
Performing geotechnical computer modeling. Experience with geotechnical engineering programs including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile and Plaxis is preferred.
Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical concentration
5-7 years of work experience is preferred.
Strong communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Mathcad 15 and ArcView.
Ability to perform field tasks and activities as required by clients.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Out of town travel is expected. Candidate must have consistent and reliable means of transportation to/from project sites.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training is a plus
Water Resources/Dams, Environmental investigation and/or remediation experience is also a plus
