Job Description

Thornton Tomasetti provides engineering design, investigation and analysis services to clients worldwide on projects of every size and level of complexity. Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a Project Director for our Façade Practice at our 51 Madison Ave. Office location

We provide façade consulting services to architects, building owners and developers. Our suite of specialty analyses helps solve complex design challenges, improves constructability, maximizes energy efficiency and increases security. We offer a range of services for the full building life cycle with the goal of helping clients execute ambitious architectural visions.

Essential Functions

Coordinates project activities and tasks with internal staff, clients and contractors

Communicates and coordinates with clients and consultants (e.g., architects and civil/mechanical/electrical/plumbing engineers) to ensure clear understanding of project goals and expectations

Interacts with clients and team members regarding project information

Provides guidance to team members regarding TT design standards, design technique, and quality

Analyzes building structures (e.g., load, wind, gravity, and geometry)

Determines project, design and construction specifications (e.g., beam size, column size, etc.)

Coordinates and guides preparation of construction documents with BIM staff, clients, and internal quality staff

Back checks each step of the project to ensure highest quality and standards

Ensures that project undergoes standard quality assurance activities including design reviews, documentation checks, and design checks

Tracks billing and invoicing throughout duration of the project

Responds to RFIs from contractors and subcontractors

Attends construction meetings and visits job-site at major stages and phases


Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Architecture. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 3- 5 years of relevant experience.

An advanced degree can be considered as a part of the candidate’s relevant experience.

Professional licensure in at least one jurisdiction preferred.
