Job Description

We are seeking a progressive and versatile Associate Director or Director in Geotechnical Engineering to join our expanding team and to lead the Geotechnical Design team nationally. You will be a key ‘work winner’ and a respected geotechnical engineering specialist. Preferably based in Leeds but we would consider other locations for the right candidate. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The priorities of your role will include:

Leading WYG’s geotechnical design across the UK and be part of the Geo-environmental Business Senior Management Team

Overseeing and assuring geotechnical inputs to the planning, investigation, design, construction and post construction monitoring aspects of projects

Developing and nurturing our client base

Tendering – leading on commercial and technical aspects

Direct line management of Leeds based geotechnical staff, their performance and progression.

Essential Leadership Skills

Proven leadership in geotechnical engineering including consideration and assessment of business risk and developing operational strategies

A proven track record in winning work and building teams

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with fluency in verbal and written English

Excellent planning & organisational skills

A high level of motivation to deliver excellent quality to programme

Commitment to professional and personal development of self and others

Essential Technical Skills and Qualifications

Degree in civil engineering or a related earth engineering discipline

MSc or PhD in soil mechanics / geotechnical engineering (or closely related subject)

Chartered Engineer (ICE or equivalent) with substantial post-chartered geotechnical experience (as required for RoGEP Geotechnical Advisor)

Expert knowledge of civil and geotechnical engineering including the geotechnical design of foundations, slopes, earthworks, retaining structures

A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design codes and standards, including EC7

Experienced using a range of geotechnical software e.g. Slide, Vdisp, Xdisp, L-pile, GROUP, Shake, Plaxis and Wallap.

A thorough knowledge of the processes of HD22/08 – Managing Geotechnical Risk
