The Technical Sales Representative for Truss Design Software will create and maintain effective relationships with customers, such as truss and component manufacturers, as well as other users of truss and EWP design software. The goal of these relationships will be to promote Simpson’s Integrated Component Systems (ICS) software suite. Positive representation of Simpson Strong-Tie at all times is necessary. This position is based in Washington or Oregon and will service these states as well as Idaho, Montana and Alaska.
35% of the time you will: Conduct software testing, demonstrations, and support.
35% of the time you will: Prospect and qualify new customer opportunities with new and existing customers, including networking, field visits, telephone contact and e-mails.
30% of the time you will: Communicate customer needs and challenges to the software development team and works jointly to provide a solution.
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A/B.S.) in marketing, business or related field preferred
4 years related experience with building components and design software
Customer focus: Quickly and effectively solve customer problems and maintain productive customer relationships. Readily adjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing customer needs. Recognize potentially adverse customer reactions and develop better alternatives.
Truss & EWP design: A functional understanding of the design and workflow of manufacturing building components, specifically trusses and Engineered Wood Products floor systems. A basic knowledge of wall panel design and general construction knowledge is beneficial.
Computer/Software: Ability to utilize Microsoft Office suite, working knowledge of SQL databases, and basic understanding of computer networking, along with hardware and software troubleshooting. Ability to quickly learn Simpson Strong-Tie’s Integrated Component Systems suite of software through various methods including instructor lead training, online training, video courses, and self-educating.
Self-management: Set priorities, goals and timelines to achieve maximum productivity. Manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner. Create his/her travel and work schedule to meet department objectives and customer needs.
Reasoning and math: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reading and writing: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and construction documents such as building plans. Write routine reports and correspondence including software specifications.
Speaking and communication: Communicate verbally in an appropriate way for the audience he/she is speaking to. Communicate effectively and respectfully with co-workers. Listen with full attention to what other people are saying, making sure to understand the needs being expressed, asking questions as appropriate without interrupting. Speak proficiently in front of groups of customers, coworkers, and managers.

This job requires domestic overnight/extended travel 50% of the time.
