The EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring the overall working conditions are in compliance with local and corporate occupational safety and health, and environmental  regulations and procedures. The project is located in Cullowhee, NC.


What You'll Do:

  • Addresses EHS issues as the site’s lead person;
  • Maintain EH&S indicators, collect incident performance data, analysis, and support project teams as applicable;
  • Provide expert technical consultation and guidance to all operations;
  • Attend pre-con meetings - review specific EHS manuals of Sub contractors and compare to Skanska’s SHEMS programs in regards to compliance;
  • Creates, evaluates, educates, and administers the EHS program for all levels of employees;
  • Conducts surveys, evaluations, inspections, and investigations of incidents and activities with or without supervision;
  • Demonstrate mastery and high performance of SHEMS/risk assessment, and health and safety plans;
  • Proficient in Internal Accident Investigations, Root Cause Analysis, and ensuring corrective actions are in  place;
  • Manage injury claims for sub-contractor under CCIP;
  • Able to perform all aspects of EHS training, i.e. First Aid/CPR, OSHA 30, IFE, SST, etc.;
  • Ability to run multi-projects on one site and/or multiple sites;
  • Involved with the national industry trade groups;
  • Develop self as a professional and continue development of personal EH&S skills;
  • Attend SHEMS audits;
  • Refines working knowledge of EHS programs by applying EHS procedures;
  • EH&S management: Evaluate programs for effectiveness, manage budget, and develop new hire safety professionals, develop relationships with community, project managers, labor groups and project contractors;
  • Direct and supervise the activities of subordinates;
  • Participates in monitoring and controlling of EHS standards;
  • Prepares, maintains, and retrieves records, reports, or documents that may be required to meet corporate or regulatory requirements, including monitoring application of EHS standards;
  • Promotes EHS awareness and fosters this awareness throughout the company, project, and  office;
  • Promotes the IFE Culture between Skanska employees, clients, co-workers and subcontractors;
  • Supports all Regional EHS Leadership Committee Initiatives on site;
  • Safety meetings: PSLT provide support and conduct meetings, owner meetings and provide updates, post incident meetings, craft lunch, pre-task meetings, ESSV, daily safety walks
  • and compliance walks;
  • Conduct Orientations: site specific and documentation;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

We're Looking For:

  • Strong computer/software knowledge and efficiency, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office products;
  • Excellent understanding of the importance of Pre Planning;
  • Excellent understanding and administration of the ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001 management system;
  • Excellent communication skills; Strong written and verbal;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Basic math/statistic & accounting skills;

  • Language proficiency in English and Spanish (verbal and written).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or related degree;
  • Five to 10 (5-10) years of experience in the field or in a related area;
  • OSHA 30 hour certificate required;
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) required;
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred and/or ability and drive to obtain certification.
