Position Summary: A Senior Consultant is responsible for the successful implementation of Optram Systems for Bentley users and will liaise with Bentley users to clarify requirements and recommend appropriate solutions. In this role you will deliver consulting expertise for a Bentley software-based solution in line with the consulting agreement and interact with the user throughout the pre-sales, implementation, configuration, and deployment phases of a project, including product training. This role reports to the Product Success Senior Manager and is part of a multi-functional team which focuses on Optram solutions. This position can be based in a Bentley office or Virtually Connected in a home office - preferably in the greater New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania metro area. 


  • Develop end to end Optram configurations, including requirements clarification, design, configuration, solution implementation, test management and testing, documentation writing
  • Lead technical work and collaborate with the project team
  • Liaise with the user and provide resolution to technical issues
  • Understand and use common data collection methods and protocols
  • Develop data pre-processors (C#)
  • Work with linear data from different systems (data profiling, transformation, import and visualization)
  • Manage testing and test project deliverables
  • Write technical documentation to support user specific Optram implementations
  • Configure development and test environments
  • Provide Optram training courses for standard product and customized features, including training material preparation
  • Mentor (junior) consultants
  • Demonstrate the Optram product and configuration to Optram users
  • Work closely with the users to assist in resolving product and configuration issues
  • Advise the user IT department on system deployments


Requirement Skills

  • Bachelor's (graduate) degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relevant industry related discipline
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in consulting or software development
  • 5 or more years of experienced, hands-on, software development using one of the following: C#, C++, Java, SQL or PLSQL
    • Ability to programmatically convert ASCII data files is essential
    • Experience with writing or ability to learn command line scripts (Power Shell or Batch)
  • Basic knowledge of SQL Server or Oracle database administration tasks, such as software installation, backup and restore
  • Broad knowledge of IT infrastructure
  • Experience with Software Version Control tools
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Leadership skills; attitude: lead by example, be assertive, inspire confidence, keep an open perspective and open to taking up new challenges and managing change
  • Team player, able to direct others to participate as part of a cross-regional/functional team and work with business partners and vendors
  • Self-Starter, able to take the initiative with the ability to work with minimal supervision or guidance

    Desired Skills

  • Experience with linear assets and linear referencing systems
  • General rail knowledge of railway network data (track, waymarks, linear assets) and rail asset condition measurements from track recording vehicles
